Guest Artist Bio
Pacific Youth Choir
The Pacific Youth Choir, founded in 2003 by Artistic Director Mia Hall Savage, is a community of eight choirs of 240 singers age 5 through 19. It has gained a reputation for quality that has led to continuing collaborations with many of Oregon’s top musical organizations: including the Oregon Symphony, Portland Youth Philharmonic, Oregon Ballet Theatre, White Bird, Portland Chamber Orchestra, Pink Martini and the Aurora Chorus.
In its fifth season, the choir was invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association’s regional conference in Vancouver, B.C. In March 2009 it was the only choir from Oregon invited to perform at the 50th anniversary national convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Oklahoma City.
The choir’s programming embraces musical education and performance. It programs challenging pieces that force students to work hard and expand, including a number of world premieres. Highlights of this season, in addition to the choir’s own concert series, will include four Oregon Symphony performances, the Poulenc Gloria with the Portland Youth Philharmonic in May and a collaboration with the Revalia Choir from Estonia in November.
