Stefan Jackiw

Violinist Stefan Jackiw is recognized as one of the significant artists of his generation. He has performed with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and the orchestras of Baltimore, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Oregon, San Francisco and Seattle, among others.

Jackiw most recently collaborated with the Oregon Symphony in April 2004 when, at the age of 18, he performed the Prokofiev Second Violin Concerto. Aside from this weekend’s return engagement with the Oregon Symphony, highlights of his current season include engagements with the Baltimore, Milwaukee and Nashville symphonies, the Rochester Philharmonic and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

Jackiw is also an active recitalist and chamber musician and has appeared on numerous major series, including performances at Ravinia, the Caramoor Festival, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Louvre in Paris and the Mostly Mozart Festival. He is a regular participant at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival. At the opening night of Zankel Hall in New York, Jackiw was the only young artist invited to perform, alongside Emanuel Ax, Renée Fleming, Evgeny Kissin and James Levine.

Born to physicist parents in 1985, Jackiw began playing the violin at the age of 4. His teachers have included Zinaida Gilels, Michèle Auclair and Donald Weilerstein. He holds a beacholr’s degree from Harvard University as well as an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant.
