We’ve invited American Pops specialist and Portland favorite Jeff Tyzik
to create a smaller Pops series that showcases the orchestra, and
we’ve programmed an even wider range of Special Concerts to suit many different musical tastes.
From bluegrass to baroque, from Gospel to Golijov, from Mahler to Mozart and from Pops to Perlman—the Oregon Symphony will dazzle you with its virtuosity.

Pops Series
Jeff Tyzik is our new Principal Pops Conductor, but he’s not new to the Oregon Symphony—he’s been a favorite with our audiences since 1999. Jeff is one of America’s foremost Pops conductors and his programs are for people who love the American Songbook, great orchestrations and talented guest artists.
Inside the Score
Now in its third season, this popular series offers an inside look at a single classical masterpiece. Our conductors present a great piece of orchestral music, put it in context, explore its origins and its performance history and help us to understand what makes it a classic. The talk is highlighted by musical examples from the orchestra. These concerts are shorter than our full length classical programs and are performed without intermission. They offer a superb introduction for young people and a delightful afternoon of musical entertainment for all ages.
Kids Series
There’s no better way to introduce the children you love to live orchestral music. Designed for ages 5 to 10, these concerts bring music to life in an entertaining and educational way. Performances are one hour in length with no intermission.
