Friends of the
Oregon Symphony

The Friends of the Oregon Symphony is the primary volunteer arm of the Oregon Symphony Association.  Its purpose is to support the Symphony by volunteering time in support of its programs and by fundraising to support its financial health.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Serving as docents to prepare students for their full orchestra Youth Concert experience
  • Ushering at the Youth Concerts
  • Conducting Back Stage Tours of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
  • Providing office support when needed
  • Participating in fundraising projects
  • Attending fun, informative social activities

Parties of Note - Fundraisers for the Oregon Symphony

Presented by the Friends of the Oregon Symphony Urban Chapter, this exciting series of intimate concerts take place on Friday nights at 7:30pm. The featured Oregon Symphony musicians have graciously donated their ideas, time and talent for these house parties and guests love the music as much as getting acquainted with some of their favorite symphony players! Your ticket price helps support a wonderful organization while you enjoy wine, heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert.

Not Just a Pretty Bass!

January 20, 2012

This concert featuring Ted Botsford will showcase the bass as a solo instrument and will feature bass music written by bass players.  Such a versatile instrument allows for influences from all different genres from classical to jazz to bluegrass.  Music by Edgar Meyer, Francois Rabbath and Nicholas Walker with help from OSO violinist Emily Cole and guest violist Marissa Winship. 

Held at the chic Beaverton home of Karen and Keith Johnson. 
$60 per person.



Love Stories

Not just for couples. Join violinists Keiko Araki and Lynn Finch, violist Leah Ilem and cellist Ken Finch as they play music inspired by love stories.

Held at the delightful Beaverton home of Lael and Forrest Seitz. $60 per person.



Nubi Woodwind Quintet

March 2, 2012

Alicia DiDonato Paulsen, flute; Marty Hebert, oboe; Mark Dubac, clarinet; Carin Miller, bassoon; and Alicia Waite, horn will perform lively and beautiful works from the woodwind quintet repertoire.  A special tasting of local cottage wines is included.

Held at the stunning Eastmoreland home of Drs. Cliff and Karen Deveney.   $75 per person.



Celebrating the 17th and 18th Century

Tim Scott turns back the hands of time with an event showcasing the glorious past of both the cello and the viola de gamba.  This evening of great music will not only entertain you but you may learn a bit as well.

Held at the glamorous West Hills home of Carey and Cam Wiley. $60 per person.



The Deep End

Bass trombonist Charles Reneau is joined by fellow low brass players as they “hijack” repertoire from other more mainstream instruments.  Deepen your appreciation of the lower end of the musical spectrum in a delightful and surprising concert which is a perfect start to the Mother's Day weekend.
