APPOINTS NEW CONCERT MANAGER

Portland, Ore. Mark Rulison has accepted the position of Oregon Symphony Concert Manager and Director of Special Projects, Symphony General Manager Mary Crist announced. "His strong background in classical music and broad concert production experience make him a terrific fit for the Oregon Symphony and our Artistic Operations Department," Crist said. Rulison joins the Oregon Symphony having previously served as Artistic Coordinator and then Production Manager for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to his work with the Detroit Symphony, Rulison served as Director of Operations and Programs with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also served as Operations Assistant for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and General Manager for the University of Rochester Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Rulison received a Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration, from the University of Rochester (NY) in 1996.
Rulison will be responsible for overseeing all concert production elements for Classical, Symphony Sunday, Nerve Endings and Kids Series programs as well as Youth concerts (formerly Young People's Concerts) and various Special Events and Presentations. Included will be "Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin," a special Nerve Endings-style concert event conceived by Resident Conductor Murry Sidlin that will commemorate the musical events of the Terezin Concentration Camp with a performance of Verdi's Requiem at the Portland Expo Center on April 20, 2002. Rulison will also be responsible for directing all media projects of the orchestra and coordinating all technical and production aspects of these activities.

will join the Symphony Jan. 3, 2002.
