FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARLOS KALMAR CONDUCTS FIRST FRONT ROW CENTER CONCERT
ABOUT THE MAKING OF MOZART

Portland, Ore. … The minds, music and mysteries of some of the world’s greatest composers will be explored in the newly renamed Front Row Center series, formerly Nerve Endings, as Music Director Carlos Kalmar leads the Oregon Symphony in a concert titled “The Making of Mozart,” on Nov. 7 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The Front Row Center series is sponsored by Bridgeport BrewPub.

Music Director Carlos Kalmar brings his special love of Mozart to this opening concert, which focuses on the evolution of Mozart from child prodigy to mature musical genius through an examination of the relationship between Mozart and his father Leopold, who was his first teacher, as well as agent, promoter and over-protective mother hen all in one.

The performance will feature actors performing the roles of Leopold and Wolfgang, with Kalmar narrating the tempestuous story of the intimate, often tempestuous bond between Leopold and Wolfgang, as the extraordinary child grows up into an even more extraordinary young man who chafes under his father’s rules and opinions. Throughout the evening Kalmar and the Symphony will perform excerpts from the “Jupiter” Symphony, “Don Giovanni,” the Symphony No. 25 in G minor, the Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major and the Symphony No. 40 in G minor, as well as little-known compositions from Mozart’s early years, including excerpts from his first piano concerto and early symphonic works.

This performance is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Tickets range in price from $14 to $50 and may be purchased at the Oregon Symphony Ticket Office (923 S.W. Washington), Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or charged by phone at 503-228-1353 or (800) 228-7343. Tickets also may be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets (503-790-ARTS) or through Ticketmaster Online, via the Symphony’s Web site at www.orsymphony.org. Service fees may apply.
