Portland, Ore. … The sensuous sounds of tango are the featured music for a festive evening that includes dance performances and the chance to kick up your own heels, sponsored by Friends of the Oregon Symphony as a benefit for the Oregon Symphony on Friday, Nov. 19 at the newly decorated ballroom of the Governor Hotel. The Governor Hotel is located at 611 S.W. 10 th Ave. in downtown Portland.
The evening begins 6:30 with hors d’ouevres and cocktails at a no-host bar, followed by tango lessons and demonstrations by internationally known dancers Alex Krebs and Carrie Whipple. At 7:15, patrons will sit down to a sumptuous dinner full of Argentinean flavors. While they enjoy the South American feast, background music will be provided by Tango Pacifico, an ensemble made up of Symphony musicians Erin Furbee, violin and Jeff Johnson, bass, with guest artists Mika Sunago, piano and Alex Krebs, bandoneón. Tango Pacifico will be performing nuevo tango music, a classical tango form, by tango master Astor Piazzolla.
After dinner, Portland pianist Tom Grant will join Tango Pacifico to provide a wide variety of toe-tapping music for dancing the night away.
