FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, Ore. … Musicians of the Oregon Symphony
will present a series of “mini-concerts” at two art galleries,
the Crossroads Arts Center and the Geiser Grand Hotel as part of Baker
City’s
First Friday “Art Walk” and the Symphony’s Community Music
Partnership on Friday, May 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Main Street in Baker
City. CMP funding is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts,
the Oregon Cultural Trust, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and MetLife/ASOL.
“The Symphony will be an exciting addition to our regular First Friday
events,” says Jan Kirby of the Crossroads Art Center in Baker City. “I
think we’ll see increased attendance at the Art Walk because of the musicians’ presence,
and also in anticipation of their upcoming community concert on May 6.”
A string quartet of Oregon Symphony musicians featuring Concertmaster Amy Schwartz Moretti, Inés Voglar, Principal Viola Joël Belgique and Principal Cello Nancy Ives will begin the evening with a short performance at the Crossroads Art Center at 6 p.m. A woodwind trio featuring Martha Herby, Todd Kuhns and Leon Chodos will present a second “mini-concert” at 6:30 p.m. at the Ranch Art Gallery. At 7 p.m. the string quartet will perform again at the Geiser Hotel, and the woodwind trio will finish out the evening with a final “mini-concert” at Sane Jane’s at 7:30 p.m. Visitors to the Art Walk will have a chance to meet the musicians, who will mingle with the audience after each performance. All performance venues are located on Main Street in Baker City.
All First Friday Art Walk events are free. Tickets to the Symphony’s Community Concert performance on May 6 will be available for sale at all four performance venues.
