THE SEASON GETS EVEN BETTER

BRANDI CARLILE MAKES HER OREGON SYMPHONY DEBUT
ZAKIR HUSSAIN RETURNS BY POPULAR DEMAND

(PORTLAND, Ore.) – An already extensive season that includes over 70 performances of 38 concerts just got even more exciting with the addition of concerts with singer Brandi Carlile and percussion virtuoso Zakir Hussain and his Masters of Percussion.

BRANDI CARLILE
One Performance Only
Friday, May 4 at 7:30 pm
With the Oregon Symphony, Jason Weinberger conducting

One of the Northwest’s most popular young singers, Brandi Carlile makes her debut with the Oregon Symphony.  Her latest hit album—Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony—was recorded at her two sold-out November, 2010 performances.  That album shows the incredible talent and breadth of this crystalline-voiced singer—hard rocker one moment, touching a cappella singer the next.  The Seattle singer is renowned for her riveting intensity and the connection she makes with her audience.  Her avid Portland fans will enjoy a delicious collection of her best-loved original songs as well as a number of cover songs she’s so adeptly made her own. She’ll be joined by her stellar, longtime band featuring guitarist Tim Hanseroth and bassist Phil Hanseroth (collectively known as "The Twins"), cellist Josh Neumann and drummer Allison Miller.

Brandi Carlile tickets range in price from $25 to $90.

ZAKIR HUSSAIN, MASTERS OF PERCUSSION
One Performance Only
Friday, March 30 at 7:30 pm
Note: Oregon Symphony does not perform

The Oregonian put it best:  “Simply put, Hussain is a virtuoso.”

One of the foremost percussionists in the world today, Zakir Hussain takes the Indian tabla to an extraordinary level.  He is revered both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but gained him worldwide fame.  He returns by popular demand after his riveting 2009 performance with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile. Joining him on stage will be Fazal Qureshi (tabla & kanjira), Rakesh Chaurasia (bansuri), T.H.V. Umashankar (ghatam), Dilshad Khan (sarang), Navin Sharma (dholak), Abbos Kosimov (doyra), and the Meitei Pung Cholom performer (dancing drummer of Manipur).

Zakir Hussain tickets range in price from $25 to $60.
