Our Corporate Good Citizens
You don’t have to look far these days to find the latest news reports about businesses struggling to deal with our ever-more-challenging economic climate. At a time when every newspaper and every TV newscast are filled with dire economic reports, it’s especially important to recognize our generous and loyal friends and supporters in Portland’s business community.
Their support, in the form of donated goods, services and money, is absolutely essential in helping to keep the Oregon Symphony healthy and the music playing. We literally couldn’t do it without them.
Here’s the honor roll of local businesses that are committed to generously supporting the Oregon Symphony by sponsoring Classical and Pops concerts this season. Corporate support like this not only helps us bring top talent to Portland, but provides funding for reduced ticket prices for students, helps with educational outreach and ensures Portland’s cultural heritage for future generations.
So we extend a heartfelt round of applause to the following local corporations, banks and businesses that have made a huge impact on the community by underwriting the following Oregon Symphony events throughout the 2008/09 concert season:
- NW Natural: The Oregon Symphony in the Neighborhoods concert at Tom McCall Waterfront Park (Aug. 28)
- The Standard: The Michael Allen Harrison Anniversary concert (Sept. 20)
- Tektronix: Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Sept. 27-29)
- Integra Telecom: Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto (Nov. 1-3)
- The Oregonian: Election Night With The Capitol Steps (Nov. 4)
- Washington Trust Bank: Lauderdale Plays Gershwin (Nov. 15-17) and “Under a Latin Moon, “the Oregon Symphony’s annual fundraising dinner and auction (Oct. 17)
- Macy’s: The Von Trapp Family Christmas Pops concert (Nov. 29-30)
- RBC Wealth Management: The All-Tchaikovsky program (Dec. 6-8)
- The Heathman Hotel: Gospel Christmas: The 10th Anniversary (Dec. 12-14)
- Lufthansa: The Classical Guitar (Feb. 7-9)
- Wells Fargo: Itzhak Perlman (Feb. 28-Mar.2)
- Umpqua Bank: Creative Kids concert (Feb. 22)
- The Oregonian: Joshua Bell Plays Mendelssohn (May 16-18)
- First Independent Bank: Live Recording With Pink Martini (May 31-June 1)
In addition to our event underwriters, Clear Channel Communications, KINK-FM, the Portland Tribune, Willamette Week, KGW-TV, Northwest Cable News and The Oregonian have all donated print and media coverage to promote concert ticket sales during the season.
We hope you’ll patronize them as well – and next time you have the chance, let them know how much their support of the Oregon Symphony means to you.
At times like these, we all need all the friends we can get. So if you’re part of a business that hasn’t yet joined our roster of corporate good citizens, we’d love to have you join us, too. You can reach me at 503-416-6375 or by e-mail at jallen@OrSymphony,org. I’d be happy to show you how to get involved – and how now, more than ever, becoming an Oregon Symphony supporter makes good business sense for all of us.
