Musician Moment

Lynne Finch

Violin

At this moment …

We would find Lynne coming home from her daughter Kristin's horseback riding lesson. "Kristin does dressage; it's wonderful to watch her grow in confidence and develop her own passion."

On the CD player …

Lynne treasures a few quiet moments. However, when her family is home together music is provided by her two kids' practice sessions. "They both play piano and we have two, so you might hear Bach at one end of the house and Chopin at the other. Live music is best!"

In the kitchen …

Quick and nutritious are the watchwords in Lynne's kitchen. She describes her cooking as "kid-friendly." "Eating together is very important to us." For special occasions, Lynne and her kids will make brownies from scratch with mint frosting, drizzled with bittersweet chocolate.

On the music stand …

In addition to upcoming Symphony music, Lynne is reading through piano trios by Dvořák, Ravel, Brahms and Rachmaninoff. She and Ken will choose one to work on for their next chamber music concert. "I love the voices of the violin and cello together and the piano adds fullness and beauty; it's a perfect combination with wonderful repertoire."

And on the nightstand …

In preparation for an upcoming kitchen remodel, Lynne is reading a number of kitchen remodeling books and magazines. "We'll be creating a more modern and convenient space with better storage and updated appliances. It will make cooking more fun!"

Before you left …

Lynne would introduce you to her children, Kristin and Andrew, and show you Kristin's portfolio of horse drawings. "I'd also show you the Japanese-style garden Andrew created in a corner of our back yard, inspired by a trip to Butchart Gardens. It has an arched bridge over a curving ‘rock' stream, a corner bench and a variety of shade plants he's chosen for it. It's a lovely quiet space."
