Julie Coleman
Violin
At this very moment …
We would find Julie participating in an outdoor activity designed to disguise the fact that she’s exercising. This might include tennis, soccer, hiking, biking, basketball or an evening stroll.
On the CD player …
“Rufus Wainwright, who I have yet to see live. But I think that would be something spectacular. He is such a showman and so clever with orchestration!”
In the kitchen …
“I dig homemade soups, especially with fresh baked bread from Grand Central Bakery. I also use a variety of Trader Joe’s offerings.”
On the music stand …
Prokofiev’s Duo for Two Violins and a pencil with a big eraser.
And on the nightstand …
“…and under and around that nightstand is a lava flow of books that want my attention. I am currently scanning a volume of Favorite Children’s Authors and Illustrators.”
Before you left …
Julie would invite you to get involved helping children learn to read. “Learning effects are cumulative—the more you know, the easier it is to learn more. Like Albert Einstein said, ‘Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world.’ If we transfer that concept to human beings by nurturing a curiosity and love of meaning early on, that could be the greatest investment of all.”
