Musical Reflections of Oregon’s Ecosystem

The Oregon Symphony’s Sounds of Home series continues with a free community event that explores the diversity and wonder found in Oregon’s natural environment. Four Oregon composers present new works specially commissioned for this event, each inspired by Oregon birdsongs and premiered by principal wind players from the Oregon Symphony. The premieres complement familiar nature-inspired music including Barber’s Summer Music and excerpts from Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, also performed by the Symphony’s wind ensemble. Representatives from the Audubon Society of Portland and Friends of the Columbia Gorge offer insight into Oregon’s ecological regions, its bird populations, and the environmental impact of the recent Eagle Creek fire with vivid nature photography.
