Mariya-Andoniya Andonova
Mariya-Andoniya Andonova is a Bulgarian-born double bassist who holds degrees in double bass performance from The Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles and the Yale School of Music.
She has appeared at leading summer festivals including The Perlman Music Program, the Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Verbier Festival. Ms. Andonova was a tenured member of the Santa Barbara Symphony for three seasons and performed with the Oregon Symphony on a one-year contract during the 2021–2022 season before joining the orchestra as a full-time member in the fall of 2022.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she launched a YouTube channel as a creative outlet and to share her experience as a female immigrant double bassist. Notable projects include #DropitlikeitsBach, a series of performances from all six Bach Cello Suites, and a rendition of Mozart’s Per Questa with her husband and fellow bassist, Kaden Henderson.
In addition to her work with the Oregon Symphony, Ms. Andonova currently performs regularly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Diego Symphony.
