School Programs

Side-by-Sides

As part of our commitment to coaching and mentoring musicians from local high schools, youth orchestras, and community orchestras, the Oregon Symphony provides multiple free Side-by-Side experiences each season. The concerts feature musicians from high school and community ensembles performing alongside their professional counterparts, inspiring students and enriching our community of music-makers.

About

2026/27 Side-by-Sides

Partnering with Salem-Keizer Public Schools and Portland Public Schools, this season we bring our Side-by-Side program to students at McDaniel High School in Portland and South Salem High School Symphony Orchestra in Salem. Oregon Symphony musicians mentor students in coaching sessions, leading up to a culminating rehearsal and concert led by Harold & Arlene Schnitzer Associate Conductor Su-Han Yang, performing to an audience of feeder middle school instrumental music students.
